Dental Restoration (Tooth Filling) Study
Do you need dental restorations and would like to participate in a research study where we will provide you with two fillings for your teeth?
Interested subjects are being asked to participate in this study because they have a need to have two fillings placed or restored. This research study is comparing 2 different bonding materials that hold the dental restoration (filling) in place.
This study will be conducted at the NYU Bluestone Center for Clinical Research and requires that you be in good general and oral health, have a good oral hygiene and be willing to comply with study procedures and required study participation visits; in addition to other study specific eligibility requirements.
If you are at least 18 years of age and need a filling on one or more of your tooth/teeth, you may qualify to participate in a research study at the NYU Bluestone Center for Clinical Research. This study consists of approximately 5 visits to our study site, over a 7 month period. Two of the visits will last approximately 1.5 hours, and three visits will last approximately 30 minutes. There will be no cost for treatment for eligible participants. Qualifying participants will be compensated for time and travel expenses.
A dental filling is a type of restorative dentistry treatment used to repair minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay (cavities) or otherwise damaged surfaces of the teeth. A dental filling is usually a two-part step. It is first the removal of decaying tooth caused by cavities, or alternately for the replacement of a non functional restoration. Secondly, the dentist applies different materials, to fill the removed portion of the tooth, which allows the person to have full function of that tooth. The types of dental restorations used in this study are “composite resin”; they are synthetic resins which are used in dentistry as restorative material or adhesives.
Composite dental fillings are a more attractive alternative because they are colored to look like natural teeth and are made of a plastic resin. They are durable, strong, and create a natural looking smile. If you have broken fillings, mercury fillings, amalgam fillings, or a cavity, composite resin fillings could make your smile more attractive.
